These are some of the tools used in blowing glass, The different tools are all used for different steps in making a piece.

Here are the tools in Gary Zacks shop in Saratoaga Springs, NY. Where I work as an assistant for him.

These are wooden blocks used to shape the molten glass. The glass rides on a layer of steam and carbon, That is what makes it not stick to the wood.

These are the blow pipes that we use. the glass will stay on on end while we use the rest of the pipe to control the glass. There are punties which are solid for transfering pieces from one pipe to another. There are also blow pipes which are hollow through the middle. This is so you can puff air through it so the bubble will expand. Punties are used for solid work as well.

This is the bench. This is where we sit and work on the pieces we are creating. By rolling the piece back and forth on the rails it keeps it from dripping to the floor. To the right is a Glory hole where you have to re-heat the piece that you are working on ever 5 to 30 seconds depending on what you want or need to do to it. ( That is one of my featherd series )
